FAQ

  • What topics does this site cover?

The Alchemist has a variety of math and computer science topics, ranging from number theory to statistics to applications in natural language processing.

  • Who is this website for?

When designing this website, the audience I had in mind were middle and high schoolers wanting to learn more about applied math topics in creative ways.

  • How do I decide which part of math to focus on?

There are so many branches that it may feel hard to start. I actually began with learning math intuitively before getting into the actual concepts and formulas, so I think that’s the way to go no matter your skill level or goals.

  • What are some career paths related to these subjects?

I’ve always wanted to be an actuary (or cyber security analyst), and that’s definitely a solid career choice related to the actuarial science aspect of math. Of course, there are positions such as financial analysts, software developers, economists, accountants, and researchers.

  • How can I build a strong foundation in mathematics?

My favourite strategy is learning through examples and practice problems. Instead of memorizing, spend hours focusing on practice. You will find the memorization comes naturally.

  • How do I stay motivated when math feels overwhelming?

You will always feel frustrated. Over time math makes you more patient. Mostly you just have to grind it out.
